HYDROPHOBIC TREATMENT

Water-repellent protection for your façade

Hydrofuge is a water-repellent impregnation treatment for suitable mineral façades. It reduces the absorption of wind-driven rain without covering the wall with a fully closed paint layer.

It is not a solution for every moisture problem. The façade must be suitable, clean and in good condition, so Nu-Isoleren first assesses the substrate.

Hydrofuge is a colourless water-repellent treatment for suitable mineral façades. The product penetrates the pores of the substrate and reduces rainwater absorption without creating a visible paint film. The wall still needs to be in sound condition before treatment.

Water-repellent protection for your façade

What is hydrophobic façade treatment?

A hydrophobic treatment penetrates a suitable mineral substrate and reduces capillary absorption of rainwater.

Hydrofuge is a colourless water-repellent treatment for suitable mineral façades. The product penetrates the pores of the substrate and reduces rainwater absorption without creating a visible paint film. The wall still needs to be in sound condition before treatment.

When is hydrophobic treatment suitable?

It is mainly intended for façades that are in sound condition but need extra protection from driving rain. Defects should be repaired first.

Hydrofuge is mainly suitable for porous mineral substrates that can absorb the impregnation. Cracked walls, active leaks, severe salt damage or incompatible coatings should be investigated before treatment.

Benefits of hydrophobic treatment

A correctly applied treatment can reduce rainwater absorption while maintaining vapour permeability.

A hydrophobically treated façade absorbs less rainwater and can dry more quickly after wet weather. This helps reduce weather exposure and moisture-related soiling. It does not replace repairs to defective pointing, cracks or other building defects.

  • Reduced rainwater absorption
  • Vapour-open performance maintained
  • Lower moisture load
  • Useful after professional façade cleaning

How does hydrofuge work?

The treatment penetrates a suitable porous substrate and reduces rainwater absorption. It is primarily protection against moisture from outside.

It does not treat rising damp, leaks or internal condensation.

After inspection and any required cleaning, the impregnation is applied evenly until the substrate is sufficiently saturated. Windows, doors and surfaces that must not be treated are protected. Once cured, the appearance of the façade remains largely unchanged.

Why clean the façade first?

Moss, algae and dirt can prevent even absorption of the treatment. The wall therefore needs to be sufficiently clean.

Where required, we first carry out façade cleaning.

The façade should be clean and sufficiently dry before application. Moss, algae, dust and deposits can prevent even absorption. Façade cleaning therefore often comes first when the substrate is contaminated.

Hydrofuge, penetrating damp and rising damp

Hydrofuge can be relevant when a suitable exterior wall absorbs rain. Rising damp comes from the ground and requires a different treatment.

Hydrofuge helps reduce water absorption from driving rain, but it does not treat rising damp from the ground and it does not solve condensation. Correct diagnosis is therefore important whenever damp walls are present.

How is hydrofuge applied?

Correct preparation is essential.

After inspection and any required cleaning, the impregnation is applied evenly until the substrate is sufficiently saturated. Windows, doors and surfaces that must not be treated are protected. Once cured, the appearance of the façade remains largely unchanged.

01

Inspect

We assess materials, pointing, cracks and moisture.

02

Clean and repair

The façade is prepared where necessary.

03

Allow to dry

The substrate must be sufficiently dry.

04

Apply treatment

The hydrofuge is applied evenly.

How much does hydrofuge cost?

Price depends on area, accessibility, substrate condition and whether cleaning or repairs are needed first.

Cost depends on wall area, accessibility, substrate absorption and any cleaning or repair work required beforehand. A free quotation allows the complete treatment to be priced correctly.

Frequently asked questions

Answers about hydrofuge, façade impregnation, moisture, preparation and pricing.

What does a water-repellent treatment do to my façade?

Nu-Isoleren applies a water-repellent treatment to a suitable façade to reduce the amount of rainwater absorbed by the surface, without simply covering the wall with a visible layer of paint.

Does my façade need cleaning before a water-repellent treatment?

A water-repellent treatment performs best on a clean and suitable façade. Nu-Isoleren therefore checks the condition of the surface first and, where necessary, cleans it before applying the treatment.

Is every façade suitable for a water-repellent treatment?

No. The material and condition of the façade matter. Nu-Isoleren therefore assesses the surface first and, where necessary, recommends repairs before applying the treatment.
